July 15, 2009 -- Dear Champion of Parental Rights,
We are trying to recruit 4.5 million Americans to support the Parental Rights Amendment, and the internet is a powerful tool to help us accomplish this if we use it well. Thousands of people immediately grasped our issue when it was presented to them, but millions of people have not even heard about it. We must continue to spread the word!
Today I need your help with an important project. ParentalRights.org and the Parental Rights Amendment need publicity. To that end, I am gathering a dedicated group of volunteers, ParentalRights.org's Social Networking Team, to help us make a huge leap forward in our online numbers as we spread the word and rally more supporters.
Are you active on Facebook, Twitter, or other social networking sites? Do you regularly participate in discussions on the 9-12 Project website or other political forums? Do you have a blog? If so, you can help! Please be sure to email me directly if you want to be a member of our Social Networking Team. In the future, I will notify this Team with online action requests when we need to spread the word on Twitter, Facebook, Blogger, and so forth. Can I count on you?
Here is the general plan for increasing our number of supporters through online activism:
1) Facebook Users: the main thing is to direct people to our Facebook cause and our Facebook fan page. Join our cause and fan page, then invite all of your friends persistently. Additionally, look through all of the many ParentalRights.org Facebook groups, and message people with links to our cause and fan page so that we can gather our Facebook supporters into more centralized places, where we can communicate with them much more easily. You can also urge them to get in touch with me if they are interested in volunteering with us. You are welcome to friend me, just mention in your friend request that you are a Parental Rights Amendment supporter. Also, it can be helpful to write notes or post links about the parental rights issue, and you are welcome to borrow any material from our website for this purpose.
2) Twitter Users: please follow @ParentalRights and encourage your followers to follow us by mentioning us and re-tweeting our tweets. In addition, address tweets to influential people on Twitter, such as Glenn Beck, urging them to take the Parental Rights Amendment seriously and to publicly demonstrate their support for it.
3) Bloggers: I would like to create a list of supportive bloggers and give you the ability (a) to access good material directly from us whenever you plan to post on the topic of parental rights; (b) to interview staff members here at ParentalRights.org about news stories, events, etc.; and (c) to have your articles or posts reviewed for accuracy. Additionally, you may send other supportive or potentially supportive bloggers to our website or have them email me, so that our influence in the blogosphere continues to expand.
4) Other social networking sites, forums, etc.: there are many other websites that I have not touched on, such as the 9-12 Project. If you are active on any such websites, please use every opportunity to show your support for this issue, to help us become a more visible movement nationwide, and to continue to add more and more supporters to our crucial cause.
Our goal is explosive expansion on all fronts! Please email me and join the Social Networking Team of people I can turn to for all of our online projects.
Thanks for your consideration of this vital opportunity!
- Jonathan R. Horton, for the ParentalRights.org Social Networking Team
